Iníon Nic an Bhaird Captains Ireland in the Tag Rugby World Cup

Iníon Nic an Bhaird represented Ireland in the 2018 Tag Rugby World Cup in Coffs Harbour, Australia in November. She captained the Mixed Open Irish Team in the competition. In a category of 21 countries, Ireland played Malta, Japan, Kiribati, France, New Zealand and Samoa in their pool games. They won all games except for a one point loss to Samoa and finished second in their group. They then faced Vietnam in the quarter final where they won on a scoreline of 10-7. They then lost to Australia in the semi final who ran out eventual winners. Ireland then faced Malta in the third place playoff in their 9th game in 3 days. The game finished level on a scoreline of 11-11 with Ireland missing out on bronze medals due to score difference.

Finishing in the top 4 countries in the world was beyond the expectations of the Irish team and they look forward to building on this success for the next world cup in 2021. Well done Inion from everyone in Santa Sabina.
