2E Action Project – The Simon Community

Our Action Project for our Junior Cert involves a study of the work of The Simon Community in Dublin.

Homeless people are denied many of the rights that others take for granted eg dignity, security, privacy, personal safety etc. In 2010, The Simon Community gave shelter to 2450 homeless people. Homelessness is even more common around Christmas. The Simon Community are working to change this.

As part of our Action Project our class is making a photo story about the issue of homelessness. We hope to put this up on the school website when it is completed. We also hung posters around the school and invited a speaker from The Simon Community to come and speak to us about the work of the charity. Her talk was very informative and helpful.

Our class is very much enjoying working on this project and hope that our work will encourage everyone in the school to support The Simon Community.

3S Welcome a Speaker from The DSPCA

The students from 3S welcomed a speaker from the DSPCA to the school on Tuesday 18th October as part of their Junior Cert Action Project. Mr Derek Kirwan spoke to the class about the work of the DSPCA in the Dublin area. He highlighted the frequent abuse of animals but also the work of the DSPCA in bringing abused animals back to full health.

The class thought Mr Kirwan’s visit was very interesting and informative.
