Drama Workshop

On 4th November, 2E and 2O participated in a Team Educational Theatre Company Workshop. They viewed a play entitled Skin and Blisters which deals with issues of self-identity, body image and eating disorders in young women.

The play and workshop aimed to celebrate diversity and propagate the idea that every young woman is unique and special in her own right. The students enjoyed the play immensely and participated enthusiastically in the workshops.

Everyone really enjoyed the day.

The Annual Poetry Aloud Competition

On 2nd November, a group of 1st and 2nd Year students participated in the Poetry Aloud Competition in The National Library.

Poetry Aloud is an annual poetry speaking competition organised by The National Library. Santa Sabina has enjoyed much success in the past in this prestigious competition. This year the focus of the competition was on the poetry of Seamus Heaney and WB Yeats.

We are delighted to announce that Wynn Ross in 2O was chosen to represent Santa Sabina at the semi-final which was held in Wesley College in Dundrum on 4th December. Wynn gave a performance of a very high standard and did the school proud. Very well done.
M.S. Readathon

There is nothing better in this world than reading a good book. In today’s world of television, video games and other distractions, the joy of reading is to be cherished and nurtured. With this in mind, a number of our First Year students recently participated in the M.S. Readathon.

The M.S. Readathon, organised by M.S. Ireland, is a worthy cause that encourages students to raise money for people with Multiple Sclerosis while at the same time, improving their reading skills. 10,000 people in Ireland suffer from M.S. which is an incurable disease, affecting the central nervous system.

The M.S. Readathon has been running for twenty two years. M.S. Ireland enables and empowers those affected by M.S. to live the life of their choice to their fullest potential.

This year the First Year students successfully raised €1017 by reading books of their own choice and for their own enjoyment. They read two hundred and fifty books in total!

The students are to be commended for their commitment to this initiative. On behalf of M.S. Ireland, I would like to thank all of the First Year students who participated in the project. Well done to you all.

Ms E. Reilly.
