Fundraising Report

Once again as we wrap up the fundraising work for another year I want to thank students, teachers, parents, administrative staff and the Dominican Order for their hard work, generosity and continued support for the fundraising. Our project to build both the Spórtlann and Astro pitch cost €2.6m a few years ago. We now owe just €150,000 and we continue to have an interest free loan to which we repay €100,000 a year.

The intention as far as possible has always been to make this task fun and we have managed to succeed in this regard. Before Easter we had a non-uniform fun day with a difference. We had a Circus theme and a few goodies on the day including the most amazing chocolate fountain and candyfloss machines. It is possible to have days like this in Santa Sabina because we have fantastic co-operation among students, teachers and all other staff. Everyone enjoyed the fun.

I would like to thank the Sixth Years who gathered in the school at 6am that morning to wash and prepare 3000 strawberries and marshmallows. In particular I would like to mention the two event prefects Laura Kiernan and Jessie Gaffney who put their heart and soul into the venture. The Sixth Years who are graduating this year were First Years when this all began. Thank you girls for your enthusiasm during the six years. The successful School Sleepover you asked to have in March was a testament to your good will and spirit of fun.

The Parents School Association ran the Posh Frocks Bingo night and it was a very enjoyable evening. Thank you to all the committee for their continuing hard work. Thanks are also due to Mr Ian Dempsey for his number calling skills and sense of humour on the night.

The building project has always run independently from school resources. The loan has been repaid each year from fundraising and the rental income of the Spórtlann and Astro pitch. The educational resources that the school has for students have never been compromised by having to repay this loan. It has always run independently. Now we have fantastic state-of-the-art sporting facilities achieved through hard work, lots of fun and sheer determination.

I would like to thank Ms Áine Woods who works very hard on a voluntary basis alongside me. The office staff, Ms Young, Ms Kellegher and Ms O Neill and our caretaker Tony Kenny have all been very generous with their time and help.

Once again I thank you all. Ní neart go cur le chéile!

Ann Cameron, Voluntary Project Manager, Co Co-ordinator of Fundraising and Rental, PE Facility, Santa Sabina.
