The annual New School Year Mass was celebrated on 1st October. This year’s Mass was a particularly special occasion as the school community celebrated the entry of Santa Sabina into Le Chéile.

| The Santa Sabina Open Night was held on the evening of Thursday, September 17th. It was a busy evening in the school and visitors enjoyed seeing the many and varied demonstrations and displays in our classrooms and malls. |

Transition Year News Autumn ‘09

| Congratulations to our Fourth Years on a wonderful start to the year. The new additions to the timetable, Young Social Innovators and Acting Up are going very well. Everyone really enjoyed all of the exciting activities in Achill and the Community Outreach Initiative was an extremely rewarding experience. |

| Santa Sabina Welcomes Our Visitors From Malawi |
| |
| Staff and students in Santa Sabina really enjoyed a recent visit to the school from our special guests from Malawi, organised by our RE Department. Ms Ellen Chapita and Mr Enoch Abraham are teachers in our link school in Masongola in Malawi and were in Santa Sabina as part of Irish Aid’s WorldWise Programme. |

| First Year History Trip to Ferrycarraig in Wexford |

The First Year students recently visited Ferrycarraig, The National Heritage Centre in Co Wexford. The trip was a wonderful opportunity for the girls to view recreations of past.
dwellings from the Mesolithic Period, through to the Viking and Early Norman periods. |

| Second Year students enjoyed participating in the Team Educational Theatre Company Workshop in November and First Year students successfully raised €1017 for the M.S. Readathon. Very well done to Wynn Ross in 2O who represented Santa Sabina at the semi-final of the annual Poetry Aloud Competition on 4th December. |

| Students in Santa Sabina have been very busy this term participating in a variety of debating competitions, eg the “Business and Professional Women” and “Mental Health” Public Speaking Competitions and the Concern Debating Competition. |

French Theatre for Schools

| The Transition Year students really enjoyed the visit by the French theatre group FTFS to Santa Sabina on Wednesday 18th November. This year’s play was entitled ‘Le Bureau de Mme Grandechance’. |

| There have been many successes for our teams this term in Hockey, Basketball, Volleyball, Gaelic Football and Equestrian Sports and already we have seen the benefits of our new AstroTurf pitch. Special congratulations to Aisling Conlon (6th Year) on her recent win for Ireland in Canoe Slalom. |
