The Official Opening of An Spórtlann and The AstroTurf Pitch

It was with great pride and excitement that we officially opened our new Spórtlann and Astro pitch on Friday 7th May 2010. This was a great day and marked a wonderful achievement in the history of the school. Fr Kevin Bartley celebrated a beautiful Mass and the Dominican Sisters were present to officially cut the ribbon. The Spórtlann and Astro pitch were blessed and a past pupil team returned to play the present Senior team in a friendly challenge match which ended in a one all draw.

The facilities will add greatly to the lives of all the students and staff. It will be a centre of sport and will also play host to many sporting and other school events in the future. What made this day extra special was the recognition that this was a building project that was initiated, run and completed by all the school community, students, staff, parents, past pupils and Dominican Trustees.

We were successful with this building project because we had excellent mentors in the Dominican Order who were very kind and generous to us financially and who enthusiastically supported and encouraged the project from the start. We as a school are very grateful to them. It was the main reason we succeeded with this success story. We will continue to fundraise to repay the loan to the Trustees as agreed. We have three years to run on this loan and we are on target.

Thank you to all who helped make that day a wonderful happy successful day.
Ní neart go cur le chéile!
