Haiti Appeal

Well done to the students and staff of Santa Sabina who raised €4,000 for Medecins Sans Frontiere in February. The generosity of the school community will help their doctors and nurses to continue working to help the people who have been affected by the devastating earthquake which struck in January.

Afri’s St. Brigid’s Peace Cross Campaign

Thank you to our teachers and students who participated in this year’s St. Brigid’s Peace Cross Campaign. They successfully raised €385 from the making and selling of St. Brigid’s Crosses in February. The money gathered will go towards supporting Afri in its work for justice, peace and human rights in Africa.

WorldWise

The WorldWise link with our school in Masongola has been ongoing for a full year now. The class of 2E have been working hard, especially since our Partner School eventually managed to get their Broadband connection up and running at the end of April. It was very exciting to finally make real contact, although there can be a time delay as students get to read the information sent over to them about their Partner Country.

Earlier this year, two teachers from Masongola, Ms Chapita and Mr Abraham visited Santa Sabina. This was a great opportunity for everyone to meet each other, ask questions, share ideas and plan the future of the Malawian-Irish Alliance. In June, Ms Bradshaw and Ms Murray will make the journey to Malawi to experience their school system at work.

This has been a wonderful learning curve for all of the students involved in the link. Both Second and Fifth Year students attended Development Workshops this year, given by Patsy Toland from Self-Help Africa, which were fascinating and extremely informative. The aim of the Project is to share as much knowledge as possible, by enabling the students on both sides to engage in meaningful communication that facilitates understanding. We are very happy with the progress to date.
