| | | | | Sports Round Up
| | | Everyone who participated in the extra-curricular sports programme had a great year, with some very close battles and exciting finishes as well as a few disappointments. Most important was the manner in which the participants represented their school with pride throughout the county, province and country. We would like to extend our thanks to the coaches and teachers who make our extensive programme possible, and spend many hours working with students, far away from the exciting environment of finals.
| | | | This season was a particularly successful one for Santa Sabina. We had 8 teams taking part with 3 of them reaching the finals. Our Senior Premier and 2nd Year Premier teams both took home trophies with our 1st Year Premier team being narrowly beaten. Indeed the 2nd Year final turned out to be a nail biting affair, when 2 periods of extra time were required to overcome Dominican College Griffith Avenue
Well done to all those who took part. Congratulations also to 5th Year student Michelle Clarke who co-captained the Irish under 16 Basketball team during their most recent tournament. This year's Inter Dominican Tournament also proved to be most successful for our Senior Team. Hosted by Dominican College Griffith Avenue in DCU on 23rd March, Santa Sabina won the trophy for the first time since 1999! Many thanks to all of our coaches: Phil, Mark, Leesa and Gina.
G. O'Doherty.
| | | | | | | Hockey | | | The new facilities see us going from strength to strength with the Senior team reaching the Leinster League semi-final, where they were beaten by the League Winners. More disappointment when they lost the Quarter Final of the Leinster Senior Cup, as a result of a last second goal by Kings Hospital. Again in the Northside League they were deprived of a place in the final by a last minute goal by the same opposition and again when they lost the Dominican Cup Final by a goal to Muckross, who they had already defeated in the qualifying stages. All in all it was a great year for this group and hopefully they can build on their success and go one step further next year.
The younger players also did us proud, but it was more disappointment when the First Year A, Minor B and Junior B all lost their Northside League Finals by a single goal. It was therefore a very welcome, and much celebrated success when the Minor B team won their final against Mount Sackville in a very exciting match in front of a large, and vocal, home crowd. With eleven teams representing the school, the improved skill level was evident and next season is eagerly awaited.
| | | | | Volleyball
| | | This year there were five volleyball teams representing Santa Sabina. The Senior team reached the quarter finals and the 4th Years went one step further, reaching the Semi-Final of their league. 2nd Years reached the Semi-Final of the League Cup, while 1st Years reached the Semi-Final of the League Cup and the Quarter Finals of the League Shield. Thanks to their coach, Tony Kenny, who is very proud of the progress made this year and was pleased to see the reintroduction of volleyball for 1st and 2nd Years because of the support of the 4th Years and the Volleyball Captain.

The teams performed better than in previous years recording a few notable victories and are hopeful of even greater success next year.

| This year we had 2 Equestrian Prefects, Sarh Overy and Ellen Keating, who were a great help to Ms O’Dwyer in organising teams and communicating details of training.
Unfortunately Ellen’s horse (Alfie) was injured during the year and Sarah was not able to get out much on her horse (Kiara) due to study commitments and transport problems, but the girls still came to many competitions and provided support to the younger riders.

|
| The team had some early training with Level 2 coach, Laura Glynn and Ms. O’Dwyer in Kilrossary Lodge and this training paid off as the team were well placed in the early shows in the Novice Inter Schools League with a two 2nd places and one 4th place. It is hoped that next year the team will build on this success with some further training. We would like to thank the parents for their commitment in transporting and supporting their daughters and their mounts.

| A trio of promising golfers, Lauren McGinn, Sophie Harrison and Julie McCarthy, claimed the gold medal in the Leinster Schools Senior Golf Competition.
They went on to represent us in the All Ireland Final in Clontarf, with Hannah Jones stepping up to replace the injured Lauren McGinn, where they finished in a very credible 4th place.

| With Stephanie Ryan, the Irish Junior No2, joining us as a First Year, high expectations resolved into excellent results with Stephanie and her U15 teammates of Aoife Turley and Catherine Dillon bringing home the All Ireland trophy.
The U17 team of Lauren Keogh, Carla Scanlon and Ríona McCarthy came runners up in the All Ireland Final. Thanks to Suzanne Ryan for taking over the organisation of this competition.

| | At a very wet Santry we were well represented in the North Leinsters by medal winners Ellen Walls, Lucy L’Estrange, (Hurdles); Victoria Dwyer (100m); Iseult O’Donnell (800m); Jane O’Dwyer (3,000m) and the Minor and Senior Relay teams. It was then on to the the Leinster Finals, where Iseult O’Donnell (Senior 800m), Lucy L’Estrange (Junior Hurdles) and the Senior Relay Team comprised of Iseult, Lauren McGinn, Síobhán Woods and Victoria Dwyer were all medal winners. |
|
| | | Iseult and the Relay team also competed in the All Ireland finals in Tullamore on June 2nd where Iseult came third in the 800m and the Senior Relay team came fourth in their event.. Many congratulations!
A big thank you to Ms. English for helping with Athletics and congratulations to all who participated in the Aviva Mile Challenge. | | | | Tennis | | | | As always the Tennis Season was short but very busy. Three teams qualified out of the group stages of their competitions with the Junior A team progressing to the quarter finals, the Minor B team going one step further in reaching the semi-finals and the Senior team of Amy O’Dea, Olwyn Feeney, Dearbhla Mulligan, Jenny Wilson, Rebecca Gordan and Emer Collier reaching the Leinster Final. After a marathon 3 hour session they were unlucky to lose out to HFC but we are very proud of their achievement. | | | | Click on the images below to enlarge | | | | | | | | Individuals of Note:

| | As always we would ask parents to keep us informed of the girls’ sporting achievements outside of the school programme as all these students deserve recognition for their achievements. | | | Click below to view slideshow of 1st Year Sports Day.
