Student Council

Our Student Council has been very active this year and have been involved in a variety of initiatives ranging from the W.E.E.E. Battery Recycling Project to supporting the Jack and Jill Foundation.

Last November the Council, together with the Transition Year Students enthusiastically participated in the W.E.E.E. Battery Recycling Project. The students canvassed businesses in the Santa Sabina catchment area and data regarding the battery recycling awareness was collected, compiled and analysed. The students then displayed their results in Excel pie charts and bar charts. I would like to commend the students for participating in this challenging project.

In January the Council embarked on the Jack and Jill Mobile Phone Campaign. We set ourselves an ambitious target of gathering a thousand phones and I am delighted to report that on 26th May this amazing goal was achieved. The enthusiasm, determination and total commitment of each Council member to the campaign was absolutely incredible. In acknowledgement of the Council’s great efforts, the C.E.O. and founder of the Jack and Jill Foundation, Mr Jonathan Irwin, visited us on the May 14th. Mr Irwin’s presentation was truly inspiring! Following this the Council have decided to extend the campaign into next year. So keep all your old and broken phones over the summer!

During the months of April and May the Council facilitated applications for 212 ISSU Scholar Cards. These cards will enable students to avail of great discounts in participating stores throughout the country.

Finally, I would like to say it was a pleasure to work with such a fantastic Council and wish all students success in their exams especially the Sixth and Third Year students.

Ms A. Foley.
Student Council Coordinator.
