| Santa Sabina Welcomes our Visitors from Malawi |
Ms Chapita and Mr Abraham arrived in a very cold Dublin on Saturday 21st November and spent ten days visiting various classes in the school, learning about Irish History and Culture and socialising with the teaching staff and their families. Their busy schedule included visits to Glendalough, The National Heritage Centre in Ferrycarraig in Wexford and Trinity College in Dublin to see the Book of Kells, together with a number of meetings with the Irish WorldWise team. Our guests particularly enjoyed meeting and working with our students and were thrilled to attend numerous classes and school events such as Irish dancing and traditional music performances and a wonderful performance from Santa Sabina’s Special Choir.
An assembly on the theme of thanks and friendship, attended by the whole school, was held on Monday 30th November in honour of Ms Chapita and Mr Abraham who were returning home the following day. Several special guests were also in attendance including Ms Emily O’Reilly, Ombudsman for Information for Children, Ms Mary McCarthy representing Irish Aid’s Worldwise Programme and Mrs Barbara Menton, Chairperson of Santa Sabina’s PSA.
Our guest teachers from Masongola Secondary School were presented with an album of photos commemorating their visit to Ireland, friendship bracelets in the colours of our national flag, created by our First Year students and a special hand carved wooden plaque, created by Dublin artist Ciaran Reynolds. This unique piece is intended to be displayed in the school in Masongola and mirrors a similar beautiful piece of work which was presented to Santa Sabina by Masongola Secondary School, on the occasion of Ms Bradshaw’s visit there, earlier this summer.
It was wonderful for everyone in Santa Sabina to have the pleasure of welcoming our special guests from Malawi to our school in November. It was a truly enriching and exciting experience for the whole school community and we look forward to future projects with our friends in Masongola. |
