In a difficult year for extra curricular and sporting activities, there was no inter school competitions in any sport. However, in the early stages of the year, we saw our hockey, GAA and ultimate Frisbee players get back to training outdoors and we were delighted with the uptake from our new first years. With only a few sessions before a second lockdown suspended activity again, all students showed great skill and dedication and have left us hopeful for a bright future in sport across the board.
All students in the school were invited to take part in different challenges throughout the year. The first was the couch to 5k challenge which saw 165 students completing the programme and running a 5k in Seagrange Park, Baldoyle in November.
The six weeks leading up to Christmas was consumed with the Get Active Challenge where all students and teachers were encouraged to walk, run and cycle to earn points. Students used the Strava App to record activities and there were both individual and team winners weekly.
A second lockdown resulted in another challenge and all junior students represented their PE classes in the March Globetrotting Challenge. Here, the students were challenged to collectively cover as much ground as possible and see how far from Santa Sabina they could go virtually. We saw great effort and teamwork with some classes covering the distance from Santa Sabina to London, Manchester and Aberdeen.
Well done to all students and we look forward to a busier and more enjoyable year in 2021/2022.
