Well done to the TY Architecture class on all of their great work as part of Architects in Schools Initiative, organised by the Irish Architecture Foundation. The students, guided by architect Sarah Carolan and Ms Foster, explored the themes of Community and Sustainability in designing structures for the school inspired by a variety of interests, eg water sports and wellbeing. These proposed structures included a pier on the sea in front of the school, exploiting our unique location, storage areas for kayaks and paddle boards with a wall made from locally sourced shells and a yoga/wellbeing space with large floor-to-ceiling windows taking in the fabulous view and light at the school's entrance.
The TY team is called "Santa Sabina Sea-nery" and the students have submitted models of their work, together with drawings, photos, maps and plans, to the National Museum of Ireland for Country Living in Castlebar, where their project will shortly be displayed alongside work from other schools from around the country also involved in the AIS Initiative. Very well done to all involved and a special thank you to cooperating architect Sarah Carolan for her invaluable expertise and support. @IAFarchitecture
