Playing Basketball in Santa Sabina:
All students are welcome to play basketball in Santa Sabina.
We currently have two 1st Year teams in Santa Sabina and each team has approximately 15 players. Training takes place after school on Fridays for first years.
We also have a Senior Team in Santa Sabina and always encourage our Junior students to continue to play Basketball at Senior Level.
Coaches:
This year we have Phil Clarke coaching and two American coaches, Mya and Shannon.
Training and facilities:
Training take place in the Sportlann, our fully equipped indoor sports hall. When the weather allows we also use our newly refurbished outdoor basketball courts.
Competitions and Tournaments:
There are 5 teams competing this year in the Secondary School Girl's Association.
Each team plays up to 4 or 5 matches in a season. If they are lucky enough to reach the finals, which we have done on many previous occasions since this league began in the 1980s, these take place in March in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght.
We often organise blitzes for Junior players and this can be a really fun way of mixing with students from other classes and making new friends.
Senior students also have the opportunity to take part in the Inter Dominican Tournament which is held each year in a different Dominican School.
The basketball season runs from September until March/April.
Local Clubs:
Situated in Killester you will find Killester Basketball Club and in Kilbarrack you will find KUBS Basketball Club which both offer opportunities for girls from U11s and up.
