A Remarkable Achievement for Santa Sabina’s Senior Camogie Team

The senior camogie team’s journey to the Dublin Schools Championship final marked an incredible achievement. Reaching their third final in just three years speaks volumes about the talent and determination of this exceptional group of players.

The final, held on December 6th in Leixlip, was an enthralling showdown against Loreto Balbriggan. Loreto began strongly, establishing a 3-point lead by halftime. However, Santa Sabina surged back in the second half, showcasing their resilience and skill. After an intense 25 minutes of play, the teams were level, and the game entered extra time.

Santa Sabina started extra time brightly, leading by one point after the first 10 minutes. Despite their strong efforts, Loreto managed to score a decisive goal in the second period. With the clock ticking and 3 points down, Santa Sabina’s captain, Cadhla Nigfhloinn, stepped up with a super strike from distance, aiming for the top corner. It was a spectacular attempt, but Loreto’s goalkeeper produced a superb save to secure the victory.

Though the final score didn’t go their way, Santa Sabina’s players left everything on the field. It was a contest where neither team deserved to lose, highlighting the spirit and quality of both sides. Every Santa Sabina player can take pride in their performance, knowing they represented their school with honour and heart.

A special thank you to Ruaidhri Garvey for coaching the team, Ms Scanlan for coordinating schools’ camogie this year, and to all the supporters who came out to cheer on the team. The girls can stand tall and celebrate their incredible achievements, 3 medals in 3 years, there’s so much to be proud of!
